“Lamenting the enduring manifestations of the “Doctrine of Discovery” and other morally condemnable, socially unjust and racist policies used for centuries by colonizers as legal justification to disenfranchise indigenous peoples and seize their lands, the Permanent Forum on Indigenous Issues today urged the rejection of such “nefarious” dogmas, and encouraged measures that would redefine relations between native and aboriginal peoples and the State based on justice.”

On March 23, 2012 a public forum on the impact of the Doctrine of Discovery was conducted at the Arizona State Capitol House of Representatives by a regional legation of Indigenous Nations, Pueblos, and organizations in order to bring to light and public scrutiny the ongoing discriminatory and illegal policies in Arizona that derive from the colonial Doctrine of Discovery.

As a next step in the process of collective restorative justice, on April 19-20, 2013 an international conference of Indigenous Peoples will take place at ASU West Campus with the objective of producing a template in the form of an curriculum for implementation in the public schools of Arizona in order to dismantle the official institutionalization of the Doctrine of Discovery as a violation of Human Rights of all Arizonans.
